Parenting Education Six class sessions (1 evening per week) are offered by the Health Department. Topics discussed are: newborn care, infant growth and healthy development, feeding methods, nutrition and dietary habits of young children, childhood injury prevention and safety,
Psychological aspects of child-rearing, making plans for the arrival of an infant and domestic violence.
Sickle Cell Testing Program and Genetic Counseling Sickle cell testing is provided by Health Department medical staff. Counseling for Sickle Cell and other genetic abnormalities is provided by State program staff.
SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) Counseling A special counseling service is provided by Health Department personnel trained in the area of grief counseling for parents who have lost a child to SIDS.
Teen Health Promotion Clinic Offers health services by appointment to teens (10-19 years old) two Saturday mornings per month. Services include: health risk behavior assessments, physical exams, sports physicals, immunizations, pregnancy testing, diagnosis, treatment and counseling for communicable diseases, and age appropriate heath and nutrition information.
Welcome Home Baby Program Provides Davie County parents of newborn infants with health promotion and disease prevention information. A Public Health Nurse contacts parents of a newborn infant (under one month of age) to arrange a time to conduct a "Welcome Home Baby" visit. The nurse provides information on childhood immunizations, growth and development issues, infant nutrition, injury prevention, sleeping positions, well child care, sibling rivalry, and family planning.
